In addition to being one of the founding fathers of the modern film industry, Charlie Chaplin was also a pioneer of film score composition.
On Monday, August 14, at 8:30 p.m. in East Hampton’s Herrick Park, The Hamptons Festival of Music (TH·FM) will present Chaplin’s 1918 silent short “A Dog Life” with TH·FM Salon Series Orchestra performing Chaplin’s original score to the film.
Watch Chaplin’s whimsical hi-jinx on screen while the TH FM Salon Series Orchestra accompanies with Chaplin’s original score to the film “A Dog’s Life,” conducted by Logan Souther, TH·FM’s associate conductor. The free community screening is offered in partnership with the Hamptons International Film Festival, and made possible by a donation from an anonymous local family in memory of their mother, whose great joy was sharing music with all, especially children. Additional support is provided by The Express News Group.
Screened first will be Looney Tunes 1950 short cartoon classic “Rabbit of Seville” starring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Rossini’s Overture to “The Barber of Seville” is ubiquitous and can be heard in classic cartoons, television commercials and blockbuster films. Many will recognize the tunes in this piece and all will enjoy ... as the evening kicks off with Rossini.
“We are thrilled to bring these ‘music and art in concert’ events to the Hamptons cultural arts community,” said Michael Palmer, artistic director of TH·FM. “We are committed to making the East End a premier music destination for unique and memorable classical music performances.”
Audience members are welcome to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the event under the tent at Herrick Park which will still be in place from the August 12 East Hampton Library Author’s Night event. Please note, no dogs are allowed in Herrick Park.
Herrick Park is at 67 Newtown Lane in East Hampton Village. For more information, visit thehamptonsfestivalofmusic.com.
