The former Christie’s auction house space within the historic Art Deco building at 1 Pond Lane in Southampton has reopened for the summer as Contessa Gallery. Steve Hartman is the founder and president of Contessa Gallery, which has locations in Palm Beach and Cleveland. The 5,600 square foot Southampton gallery will be featuring the work of world-renowned artist Alexi Torres through September 17.
“Southampton stands as one of the country’s premier art markets, complementing our gallery locations in Palm Beach and Cleveland,” said Hartman. “With a presence in the Hamptons for 15 years and participation in prestigious art fairs, we are excited to further expand our footprint and cultivate relationships with collectors and cultural institutions in this dynamic location.”
To celebrate the opening of the Alexi Torres’s show, Contessa Gallery will host meet-the-artist events this Thursday and Friday. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the premiere of Torres's first new sculpture, a mesmerizing creation crafted using marine grade 316 stainless steel. The piece, a testament to Torres’s artistic prowess, embodies a fusion of innovation and craftsmanship that is set to redefine the boundaries of contemporary sculpture.
The artist’s latest paintings, characterized by his signature innovative woven brushstroke technique, push the envelope of artistic expression. With a unique ability to create a depth perspective reminiscent of virtual reality, Torres invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world where art transcends mere representation.
Having presented his first solo show in the Hamptons two years ago, followed by appearances at Art Miami, Contessa Gallery has been a steadfast supporter of Torres’s artistic journey.
Meet the artist, Alexi Torres, on Thursday, August 17, and Friday, August 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Contessa Gallery, One Pond Lane, Southampton. Reserve for the event at art@contessagallery.com or text 216-410-7101. For more information about the gallery, visit contessagallery.com.
