On Saturday, May 7 at 5 p.m. Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor will host essayist David Bouchier, who will read from his latest publications, “Not Quite a Stranger: Essays on Life in France” and “Lucky Man.” Mr. Bouchier has spent extended time in the south of France over the last several years, where his gift for the humorous essay has flowered.
Mr. Bouchier is an award-winning weekly essayist for National Public Radio in New York and Connecticut. His commentaries have appeared in The Atlanta Journal & Constitution, Newsday, The Los Angeles Times, and dozens more newspapers through syndication. Mr. Bouchier’s humor column “Out of Order” appeared in the regional Sunday edition of The New York Times for 10 years. He is an instructor at the University of Iowa Summer Writing Festival.
Previous books include “The Accidental Immigrant,” “The Song of Suburbia,” “A Few Well Chosen Words,” and “The Cats and the Water Bottles and Other Mysteries of French Village Life, with drawings by Diane Bouchier.” The author lives in Stony Brook and in a village near Uzès, France, with his wife who is a professor at Stony Brook University, and their two cats.
Other events coming up at Canio’s Books include the return of writer Simon Van Booy on Saturday, May 14. Mr. Van Booy will read from his latest novel, “Father’s Day,” a tale told in Father’s Day gifts from a young girl to her dad.
