Uniphi Good’s Second Annual East End Music & Art Festival returns September 18 through September 20 with a number of events at venues including The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, the 69 Main Street Gallery in Southampton, and the Springs Community Center.
On Friday, September 18, a private reception at 7 p.m. at the 69 Main Street Gallery in Southampton, will open “For the First Time Ever,” featuring hand-signed artwork by rock-and-roll legends Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
This the only Beatles exhibit that features the signed artwork of John, Paul, and Ringo all together. Come see this one-of-a-kind exhibit and maybe walk away with a hand signed Beatle masterpiece. Although internationally known as a singer and songwriter, Dylan has been an accomplished painter for over 50 years. Exhibited worldwide and collected by museums, Dylan’s artwork has graced the cover of albums, books, and magazines.
That exhibit will open to the public on Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with artwork available for purchase.
On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, children are invited to join the festival and Explore the Universe with Astronaut and Navy Captain Frank Culbertson, an 18 year career NARA Astronaut, at the community center at the Springs Presbyterian Church, 5 Old Stone Highway in East Hampton.
Captain Culbertson was the only American not on Earth on 9/11. He has flown three space missions and logged over 144 days in space as shuttle commander, pilot, and International Space Station (ISS) Commander. Professional art educators will lead kids in a fun, take-home, educational art project, related to space and the locally inspired abstract expressionist movement at this free event.
“Art & Astronauts” attendees will also have the unique opportunity to explore the Universe in the Vanderbilt Museum Discovering the Universe: Mobile Classroom. This interactive experience has a unifying thread of how astronomers acquire knowledge about the Universe. Each module presents a different part of the process of obtaining information and covers topics such as Light, Telescopes, Digital Imaging, The 3-D Universe and Gravity.
The marquee event of the weekend will be a performance by Darryl “DMC” McDaniels from Run DMC, along with Grammy nominated artists Tonic, Glen Phillips from Toad and the Wet Sprocket and Toby Lightman. The concert will be held at The Stephen Talkhouse, 161 Main Street in Amagansett, starting with a VIP meet and greet at 6 p.m., with general admission doors opening at 7 p.m. before the 8 p.m. concert. Tickets to the concert, which will benefit The Wounded Warrior Project and The Springs Food Pantry, are $100 for VIPs; $75 for general admission.
