Looking for a soul mate? Then perhaps you might do well to join author Lyle Greenfield for a reading from his book, “The Soul Mate Expeditions,” on Saturday, August 17, at 5 p.m. at the Amagansett Free Library, 215 Main Street, Amagansett.

“The Soul Mate Expeditions” is a collection of stories, letters and reveries — including the mystery novella “What Vienna Saw” — written over a period of 20 years. The author has lived in Amagansett and New York City for over 40 years. He began his eclectic career as a copywriter and creative director for the ad agencies J. Walter Thompson and Saatchi. In 1980, he planted a vineyard in Bridgehampton and built The Bridgehampton Winery — the first winery in the Hamptons. The winery closed its doors in 1995 and is now home of the South Fork Natural History Museum.

Others may know Greenfield as a somewhat notorious writer of letters to The East Hampton Star. He readily admits to taking unfair advantage of its practice of publishing every signed letter submitted “with the exception of those judged to be proselytizing, an invasion of privacy, libelous, or obscene.”

Sounds like a good policy to us.
