Fundraising Underway To Present 'The Miracle Worker' To Local Students

author on Nov 2, 2017

WPPB 88.3 FM radio personality Bonnie Grice is planning a production of “The Miracle Worker” in the spring for local students, and her Boots on the Ground Theater is in the midst of a fundraising campaign to underwrite the effort.

The three-act play by William Gibson is based on the autobiography of Helen Keller, who was deaf and blind. She learned to communicate thanks to her teacher Anne Sullivan and became an advocate for people with disabilities. Three performances for student audiences are planned, if the fundraising goal is met.

Local students are being invited to audition in December for the roles of Helen and Annie. Joan Lyons will direct.

Donors who give $100 will receive two tickets to the show in April 2018 at the Southampton Cultural Center in Southampton Village, and those who give $500 will receive a pair of tickets plus admission for two to the opening night party. Donor rewards escalate from there.

The fundraising goal is $8,500, and $4,000 has already been donated or pledged. The deadline to meet the goal is Thursday, November 9.

To make a tax-deductible donation, visit scc-arts.org/the-miracle-worker-fundraising-campaign/ or send a check to SCC/The Miracle Worker, PO Box 5008, Southampton, NY 11969. For more information, email bootstheater1@gmail.com.
