Guild Hall will present a trio of live and broadcast performances in the days ahead, including a Metropolitan Opera Live in HD screening, an in-process dance-theater work by local artists-in-residence and a National Theatre Live presentation.
The month begins Saturday, November 8, with “The Met: Live in HD — La Bohème” from 1 to 5 p.m. The broadcast features Franco Zeffirelli’s classic production of Puccini’s opera, set in 19th-century Paris. Soprano Juliana Grigoryan stars as Mimì alongside tenor Freddie De Tommaso as Rodolfo. Keri-Lynn Wilson conducts the performance, which will be transmitted live from the Metropolitan Opera stage to cinemas worldwide as part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series.
The estimated run time is three hours and 30 minutes, with two intermissions. Tickets are $27 to $30.
That evening at 7 p.m., Guild Hall’s William P. Rayner Artists-in-Residence, Site-Specific Dances (artistic directors Michael Spencer Phillips and Dino Kiratzidis), will present “In-Process: Love Letters — Cage to Cunningham.” The dance and media performance draws from letters exchanged between composer John Cage and choreographer Merce Cunningham, exploring their creative and personal relationship.
The work features choreography by Phillips, media curation by Kiratzidis, and collaboration with videographer Emma Kazaryan, graphic designer Riley Hooker, and composers Warren Hildebrand and Matthew Ricketts. Musician Adam Tendler serves as a John Cage specialist and performer. The in-process showing will be followed by a discussion with the creative team. Tickets are $22.50 to $25.
The program continues Friday, November 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. with “National Theatre Live: Mrs. Warren’s Profession,” filmed from London’s West End. Directed by Dominic Cooke, the production stars five-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”) and her daughter Bessie Carter (“Bridgerton”) in Bernard Shaw’s classic play about morality, independence and social change. Tickets are $18 to $20.
