On July 11, the Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) Opened its SummerDocs series with “Best of Enemies” at Guild Hall in East Hampton. This is the seventh year HIFF has presented SummerDocs. The series will continue with “Listen to Me Marlon” on Saturday, August 1 at 8 p.m. and will close with “Peace Officer” on Friday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Directors Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville were introduced by Alec Baldwin, who will lead conversations for “Listen to Me Marlon” with director Stevan Riley as well as with “Peace Officer” writers-directors Brad Barber and Scott Christopherson.
“Listen to Me Marlon” explores the creative mind of actor Marlon Brando as told through voice recordings of the actor himself. “Peace Officer” explores the militarization of police forces through the story of William “Dub” Lawrence,” a former sheriff who established and trained his rural state’s first SWAT team only to see that same unit kill his son-in-law in a controversial standoff 30 years later. Dub uses his own investigative skills to uncover the truth about that and other recent officer involved shootings in his community while tackling larger questions about the changing face of peace officers nationwide.
“We have a provocative and engaging slate for our seventh year that truly exemplifies the high caliber filmmaking that we value at HIFF," said Artistic Director David Nugent said earlier this summer when the SummerDoc slate was announced. “The SummerDocs series continues to be a highly-anticipated mainstay of our programming initiatives, screening award-winning documentaries each year to our audience.”
Candescent Films will return to sponsor the Audience Award for the 2015 SummerDocs series. Founded by Lilly Hartley, Candescent Films produces and finances social issue films that have the power to ignite conversation and create change.
