The Hampton Ballet Theatre School will present its spring ballets, “Les Sylphides” and the “Littlest Mermaid” this weekend in Guild Hall’s John Drew Theater on Main Street in East Hampton.

“Les Sylphides” is a short non-narrative romantic ballet, a “ballet blanc,” originally choreographed by Michael Fokine with music by Frederic Chopin. The ballet premiered  in 1907 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia by the Ballets Russes. Director Sara Jo Strickland has staged this ballet for older, professional level students of the ballet theatre school.

The “Littlest Mermaid” is a ballet originally conceived and choreographed by Ms. Strickland and will feature all the students of the Hampton Ballet Theatre School as well as resident guest artists Adam and Gail Baranello of A&G Dance Company and Sara Bedell-Spataro an instructor at the ballet theatre school. Located in a kingdom under the sea, mermaid princess, seahorses, sharks, crabs, merwitches and all types of wondrous sea creatures will bring Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale, “The Little Mermaid,” alive.

Costume design for both production is by Yuka Silvera, with lighting by Sebastian Paczyynski and set design is by Ms. Strickland.

The Hampton Ballet Theatre School’s productions of “Les Sylphides” and the “Littlest Mermaid” will be on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at the John Drew Theatre at Guild Hall, 158 Main Street in East Hampton. Advance tickets are $20 for children under 12 ($25 the day of); $25 for adults ($30 the day of); and premium seating is available.
