Literary Death Match is coming to the Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton on Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m. to celebrate the launch of the Summer/Fall 2016 (Vol. X, No. 2) issue of “TSR: The Southampton Review.”

The Literary Death Match duel will be hosted by the Southampton Summer Writers Conference and will feature a mix of established authors and new talent featured in TSR. The Los Angeles Times calls the Literary Death Match “the most entertaining reading series ever.”

Authors will perform their most exciting work for seven minutes to a live audience and a panel of literary judges. This competition is both literary and humorous, and as such contestants will be judged on both their literary merit and their performances. Judging this hilarious literary battle will be Billy Collins, Meg Wolitzer, Adam Gopnik and Ron Charles.

Contestants will be Iris Smyles (“Iris Has Free Time” and the just published “Dating Tips for the Unemployed”); Helen Simonson (“Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand”); Timothy Liu; and Tracy King-Sanchez. Musical entertainment will be provided by Zachary Lazar’s band, Altamont.

“The Southampton Review” features both highly celebrated talent and emerging voices of the current generation. The Summer/Fall 2016 (Vol. X No. 2) issue offers fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and artwork. Says Editor-in-Chief Lou Ann Walker, “This is a literary journal that readers will keep for a very long time, that they will dip into again and again, discovering new voices and visions while savoring long-standing favorites.”

Tickets to the Literary Death Match are $25. For more information, call (631) 632-5030 or visit www.stonybrook.edu/southampton/mfa//summer/public.
