The Parrish Art Museum presents Jazz on the Terrace with Michael Sarian’s New Aurora Quartet on Friday, August 6, 6 to 7:30 p.m., featuring Sarian on trumpet and flugelhorn, plus piano, bass and drums. The musician/composer has been praised for his unique compositional and instrumental voice on New Aurora — also the title of his fourth album as a leader and featuring a new acoustic quartet. The project is a clear departure from his previous releases, which feature extensive four-horn arrangements, electronics, and hard-hitting grooves.

The event takes place outdoors on the on the museum’s terrace and event lawn, rain or shine. It is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of The Jam Session, in collaboration with a major donor and life-long jazz enthusiast. Guests may attend the concert in person or watch the livestream on the Parrish YouTube channel. Guests should bring their own chairs as museum seating is not available.

Born in Toronto and raised in Buenos Aires, Sarian relocated to New York City in 2012 to pursue a master’s degree in jazz studies at New York University, where he studied with great musicians such as Laurie Frink, Alan Ferber, Brad Shepik, Ralph Alessi, and Mike Rodriguez. He has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, BRIC JazzFest, Getxo Blues Festival, Blue Note Jazz Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Beacon Theater, Central Park SummerStage, Teatro Colón, has appeared on WNYC’s “Soundcheck” with John Schaefer, NPR’s World Cafe, and many more.

The Parrish Art Museum is at 270 Montauk Highway, Water Mill. Visit parrishart.org for details.
