Tenor Robert White has sung for six United States presidents, the British royal family and Pope John Paul II. And in a few days, he’ll perform for East Hampton residents.
On Saturday, November 3, Mr. White will give a concert of classic pieces by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann and Sergei Rachmaninoff at 4 p.m. in Hoie Hall at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church in the village. Accompanied by pianists Daria Rabotkina and William McNally, the tenor also plans to sing “My Wild Irish Rose,” “Some Enchanted Evening” from the musical “South Pacific,” plus two songs composed from poetry by William Butler Yeats.
Mr. White’s career began decades ago as a child prodigy who sang on the radio with Kate Smith and Frank Sinatra. Under composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, he became a soloist with the New York Philharmonic. He has recorded with Yo-Yo Ma and Placido Domingo, not to mention more than a dozen of his own albums.
This is the first concert of five that will be featured during the series “Music at Saint Luke’s” through the winter. Tickets are $20, or free for children under 18. For more information, call 324-1126.
