The Church welcomes back “Sag Harbor In Focus,” a photo exhibition featuring work by Pierson High School students, now celebrating its ninth year. The Church will also welcome back the Pierson High School students who participated in its 2025 Fashion Intensive Workshop, which was supported by the Reutershan Education Trust and facilitated by Mary Jane Marcasiano. The exhibition opens on Thursday, May 29, with an awards ceremony from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a fashion show presented by the students who will model their spring 2025 collection show. A reception will concluded the evening.
The exhibition, which has become a Sag Harbor tradition, highlights life in the village and on the East End as experienced through the lens of students. See their take on the eight exhibition categories: Portraiture, Landscape and the Natural World, Architecture, Still Life, Home and Family, A Sense of Place, People and Activities, and Inside Out. Assembled by artist and Pierson High School art teacher Liz Cataletto, the show includes work done by students in her photography and advanced photography classes.
This year, acclaimed photographer Ralph Gibson is the judge for the photography contest. Gibson will choose one winning photograph from each category. The winners will each receive a $100 prize, with a $1,000 grand prize issued to the photographer with the most outstanding body of work submitted for consideration.
Created eight years ago by Eric Fischl and April Gornik, the exhibition has become a much-loved annual event. Though focusing on Sag Harbor, the creativity alive in each student year after year exemplifies Fischl’s statement, “Art transforms the local into the universal through the lens of the gifted eye.”
The Church is at 48 Madison Street in Sag Harbor. For more information visit thechurchsagharbor.org.
