Summer Music From Rites Of Spring

The seventh edition of the Rites of Spring (RoS) Music Festival is underway on the North Fork. The RoS Ensemble is a collectively organized group of musicians dedicated to performing contemporary music and creating multidisciplinary artistic programs at the highest level. Based on the East End, the ensemble is committed to the idea that the arts belong in every community and implements this mission through touring and outreach to connect with audiences and artists, focusing specifically on bringing new music and interdisciplinary works to locations out of the reach of many music organizations.

Upcoming Concerts:

Between Wind And Shrubs – Friday, July 1, 6 p.m. Poquatuck Hall in Orient

Music by Price, Gershwin, Dvorak and American songs, performed by Gil Goldstein, accordion; Tom Manuel, trumpet; Paolo Bartolani, piano. An unusual and original combination of musical instruments with a program of traditional American songs and transcriptions/ adaptations of classical musical pieces to celebrate the American music traditions.

Across American Roots - Sunday, July 31 at 5 p.m. Sylvester Manor on Shelter Island

Music by Duke Ellington, Antonin Dvorak & Native American musicians performed by RoS Ensemble, Jazz Loft Big Band and Shinnecock Nation musicians. This inaugural annual event at Sylvester Manor to celebrates all American cultures and traditions and spread awareness about its richness and history.

Rustic Mid-Summer Concert – Sunday, August 14 at 6 p.m. McCall Vineyard in Cutchogue

Music by Stravinsky, Bartok, Price, Goldstein performed by Mingzhe Wang, clarinet; Yezu Woo, violin; Sami Merdinian, violin; Matthew Cohen, viola; Mihai Marica, cello.

This program is centered around the American composer Perry Goldstein’s multifaceted Quintet for clarinet and string quartet with its spiritual and folkloric origins.

Sound of Science – Saturday, September 17 at 6 p.m. Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe in Shoreham

Music by Dominic Murcott performed by the RoS Ensemble and Arx Duo. This concert celebrates the scientific wonders of Tesla’s universe and the connections between science and music.
