On Wednesday, July 6, at 7 p.m., textile artist Susan Schrott will offer a slide lecture on “The Healing Power of Art” at the Montauk Library.
From Schrott’s dual perspective as an artist and as a therapist, her talk will describe her retrospective view of how the two spheres combine to support the compassionate process of healing. A Shelter Island resident, she is a juried professional member of Studio Art Quilts Associates (SAQA). She is a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor and Certified Yoga Teacher. Susan Schrott is the author-illustrator of a forthcoming book of reflections, “Rise With Radiance: 365 Days of Inspiration.” Her most recent textile art work “Seven Sisters” is currently on view at the Montauk Library.
As a fiber and mixed media artist, Schrott synthesizes her life experiences into deeply personal, uplifting images. Her objective is “to move people and instill a sense of hopefulness that is dormant within themselves until they realize that they possess the energy to inspire others.” Her hand-dyed fabrics, intense thread work, and embellishments, add visual texture and depth to her creations. Her work has garnered critical attention and numerous awards. Several of her pieces have been included in solo and group gallery exhibitions, permanent installations and private collections as well as being featured in notable quilting magazines and art books.
