The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival (BCMF), Long Island’s longest-running classical music festival, returns this summer for its 42nd season with 11 concerts from July 19 to August 17. This year’s theme, “In Between Lines: A Summer of Music Inspired by Literature,” explores the deep connections between music, poetry and storytelling, from the Baroque to the contemporary.

The festival’s programs feature works inspired by writers including Jonathan Swift, W.B. Yeats and T.S. Eliot. Highlights include Mendelssohn’s “Songs Without Words,” Telemann’s “Gulliver’s Travels,” Schubert’s “Trout Quintet” and premieres of new works by Lowell Liebermann and Pulitzer Prize-winner Paul Moravec.

The acclaimed bass-baritone Joseph Parrish opens the season with a concert of American songs, the only vocal performance in the series. Concerts are performed by a distinguished, multi-generational roster of chamber musicians, led by flutist and BCMF Artistic Director Marya Martin.

Special events include performances at the Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack, the Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton and the Wm. Brian Little Concert at the Channing Sculpture Garden.

Founded in 1984, BCMF has expanded from two concerts in a small church to nearly year-round performances through its BCM Spring and BCM Autumn series, and its own record label, BCMF Records.
