Temple Adas Israel in Sag Harbor will host a reception on Sunday October 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. for artist Erica-Lynn Huberty, whose work, “The Observance of Thread” is currently on exhibit in the Temple’s gallery. Ms. Huberty, who has shown widely on the East End and across the country, combines textiles, delicate brush work, collage, embroidery and other fiber arts techniques in paintings and works on paper.
This showing will feature new works that derive inspiration from Judaic mythology as well as narratives reflecting her own family history. A descendent of 17th century Spanish-Dutch Jews, Ms. Huberty learned centuries-old stitching techniques at a young age from her great-aunts, grandmother and mother, and continues to keep these traditions alive in work that reflects on needlework as an act of feminine self-worth, as well as a method of cataloging mythos, ephemera, and childhood memory.
Ms. Huberty’s work has been shown most recently at Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, Racine Art Museum in Wisconsin, Sara Nightingale Gallery in Water Mill, Ricco-Maresca Gallery and Denise Bibro Fine Arts in New York, as well as at Art Southampton, Verve, and Select art fairs. She teaches art at the Parrish Art Museum and Hayground Camp, and is also known internationally as an award-winning writer of fiction and essays. This is a unique chance to meet the artist. The show will run through the first week in December and is open to all around the synagogue’s Shabbat services.
