On Friday, April 21, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., OLA (Organización Latino Americana) of Eastern Long Island brings its popular signature cultural event, Pachanga, back to Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theater. With a theme of “Truth and Healing/Verdad y Sanación,” this year’s Pachanga features live “old school” Latin music by local favorite, Mambo Loco, the dynamic rhythms and multisensory performance of Mila Tina and a performance by Sydney, a spoken word artist and the creator of the revolutionary movement practice, “Dance to Freedom.”
“We’re excited about bringing OLA’s Pachanga back to Bay Street Theater,” said Minerva Perez, executive director of OLA. “It gives people a fun way to celebrate the end of winter. What better way to welcome the spring — and the easing up of the pandemic — by dancing to salsa and merengue with Mambo Loco? And we’re thrilled to have Mila Tina’s powerful percussion and video performance to get the evening going.”
Mila Tina and Sydney will start the evening off with their energizing performances. Through Mila Tina’s innovative mix of drums, percussion, dance, martial arts, visual design and technology, she captivates and challenges her audience with thought-provoking performances. As a performing artist and spoken word creator, Sydney has brought her magnetic energy to stages all over the world. And for 20 years Mambo Loco has been synonymous with the classic music styles of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican origin.
“Our Pachanga is a way to bring people together to celebrate music, dance, and an artistic and cultural heritage that many on the East End share,” said Perez.
In addition to live music and dancing, there will be a free reception and a cash bar. Tickets are $20 in advance (plus fees) at olapachanga2023.eventbrite.com. They will also be sold at the door for $25. Bay Street Theater is on Long Wharf in Sag Harbor.
