Bay Street Theater’s first show of the mainstage season will be the world premiere of “The Prompter,” a new comedy by Wade Dooley. Last week, the theater announced that Tovah Feldshuh will star in the play as Irene Young, a veteran actress who, after a 40-year absence, is returning to the Broadway stage with the help of a young actor, Wade (Wade Dooley), who is hired to be her prompter.

“The Prompter” was part of Bay Street’s new works festival in 2018, and it runs May 28 to June 16 at the theater. Scott Schwartz, Bay Street’s artistic director, will direct.

“I first worked with Tovah on ‘Golda’s Balcony,’ which became the longest-running one-woman show in Broadway history,” said Mr. Schwartz in a statement, “and I am thrilled to be reunited with her and to continue my journey with Wade as we bring ‘The Prompter’ to life this summer.”

Ms. Feldshuh is a six-time Tony and Emmy nominee and the winner of four Drama Desk and four Outer Critic Circle awards, among many others. In addition to ‘Golda’s Balcony,’ she also starred in Mr. Schwartz’s acclaimed production of ‘Arsenic & Old Lace’ at the Dallas Theater Center opposite Betty Buckley.

Her most recent role on Broadway was as Grandma Berthe for Mr. Schwartz’s father, Stephen Schwartz, in the Tony-winning Broadway revival of “Pippin.” Her latest television series includes “The Walking Dead” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” She was awarded three honorary doctorates and has received the Israel Peace Medal and Eleanor Roosevelt Humanities Award.

Tickets for all summer shows at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor are available at 631-725-9500 or baystreet.org.
