‘Unsilenced Voices’ Honors Music’s Power to Resist Tyranny

Reflections in Music returns to The Church on Saturday, October 25, at 7 p.m. with “Unsilenced Voices,” a chamber music program featuring works composed in the face of oppression. The concert includes music by Shostakovich, Poulenc, Kabalevsky, Bartók, Tigran Mansurian and a world premiere by artistic director Bruce Wolosoff.

Performers include clarinetist Narek Arutyunian, violinist Deborah Buck, cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, and Wolosoff on piano.

Arutyunian, praised for his passionate and sensitive playing, has performed with major orchestras and festivals worldwide. He trained at the Moscow State Conservatory and Juilliard and has been recognized with top international awards.

Buck, acclaimed for her imagination and vibrant sound, has had a versatile career as concertmaster, chamber musician, soloist, and recording artist. She studied with renowned teachers at Juilliard and the University of Southern California and currently co-directs the Kinhaven Music School.

Ramakrishnan is an accomplished chamber musician and soloist who has toured internationally and teaches at Bard College Conservatory. He holds degrees from Harvard and Juilliard and has performed with ensembles including Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble.

Wolosoff, a composer and pianist noted for blending classical, jazz, and contemporary influences, serves as artistic director of Reflections in Music. His acclaimed compositions and performances have been featured globally.
