The Leiber Collection will host artist Laurie Lambrecht who will lead an art-making workshop using recycled materials in the Leiber Garden of Friends on Saturday, August 17, at 3 p.m.
Enjoy an afternoon in the garden as Lambrecht presents a community weaving project using materials such as plastic newspaper home-delivery bags and teaches participants to twirl yarn remnants, left over from previous projects, to create her enchanting “Ode to the Firefly” tipped branches, which will be added to her piece in The Garden of Friends exhibition.
The community weaving project will remain in the garden so that guests can add their creative efforts throughout the rest of the exhibition. Bring any leftover newspaper home-delivery bags or clean plastic bread bags stored in your pantry or closet, as well as any remnants from yarn activities, to add to this project.
Laurie Lambrecht, a native of Bridgehampton, is a visual artist working in photography and fiber. Her work is a deft observation of the natural world, merging eye and hand in her lens and fiber-based work. Her first career as a sweater designer heightened her awareness of the tactile qualities and nuances of pattern and color found in nature. Her work especially celebrates trees — their form, subtlety, and enduring presence.
Lambrecht’s photographs are in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, The Center for Creative Photography and the Parrish Art Museum. She has had numerous solo exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad and has been a participant at several artist residencies. In the early 1990s, she worked as administrative assistant to Roy Lichtenstein simultaneously photographing the artist and his process. “Roy Lichtenstein in His Studio,” the monograph of her project, was published by Monacelli Press in 2011.
On view at The Leiber Collection are “Judith and Gerson Leiber — Over The Top” running through April 30, 2025, the 5th annual “Garden of Friends” exhibition, which runs through November 30, and “Connie Fox and William King — Entangled” showing through August 21.
The Leiber Collection is located at 446 Old Stone Highway in the East Hampton hamlet of Springs. For details, visit leibercollection.org or call 631-329-3288.
