The Teen Theatre Troupe of the Arts Academy at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center will livestream "Urinetown."
Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, “Urinetown” is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. On January 30, at 6 p.m., viewers can livestream a fully staged production of the musical from the Teen Theatre Troupe at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Featuring over 15 local student actors and actresses, the Arts Academy has been preparing for the production since October.
The original production, which premiered in 2001, features music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics by Hollmann and Greg Kotis and book by Kotis. “Urinetown” satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement and municipal politics. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, “Urinetown” catapults the “comedic romp” into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.
