Better Alternatives

Regarding the LED streetlight conversion [“East Hampton Town Asks For Residents’ Input On New LED Lights At Atlantic Avenue Beach,” 27east.com, June 15]:

According to the most current recommendations from professional organizations, health professionals and the International Dark Sky Association, the “sample” streetlights specified by the out-of-town consultants hired by East Hampton Town are too high in blue light waves (Kelvin), too high in wattage, and there is no review of the usefulness of the streetlights in that area.

This will waste electricity and our tax dollars, affect flora and fauna, human health, driver visibility, eye health, and our view of the night sky.

There are better specifications for streetlights, and we should use them.
