D. Elizabeth R. Stonemetz
D. Elizabeth R. Stonemetz of Amagansett died at the Westhampton Care Center on Tuesday, August 9. She was 94.
Born August 28, 1916, in Greenport to Henry and Daisy Rowland (née Coen), she graduated from Greenport High School and loved to walk to the skating rink where she worked. Later, she became a secretary at Ruscher’s in Wainscott and married Nat Raynor. They moved to Amagansett where Ms. Stonemetz stayed for the rest of her life. Ten years after Mr. Raynor died, she married Glen Stonemetz.
She was involved with the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Amagansett Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Guild and the Amagansett Presbyterian Church Sewing Club.
She is survived by her son, Nathaniel H. Raynor of East Hampton; brother, Henry Rowland of Ticonderoga; four grandchildren, Andrew Raynor and his wife Jenny of Florida, Emily Bedell and her husband Joe of Aquebogue, Justin Raynor and his wife Ruth of Montauk, and Scott Raynor of East Hampton; four great-grandchildren, Maggie, Chase, Eddie, William and 17 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Glen Stonemetz, and her brothers, Wesley and Arthur Rowland.
A memorial service was held on Friday, August 12, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Amagansett.
