State Budget Fully Restores $39 Million in Local Government Funding

Last week, Senator Jim Gaughran and Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., chairs of the Committee on Local Government in both the Senate and Assembly, respectively, announced this year’s state budget, adopted last week, has fully restored Aid and Incentives for Municipalities, otherwise known as ‘AIM’ funding. The governor’s budget proposed cutting over $39 million, including from Long Island town and village government budgets, a change Mr. Gaughran and Mr. Thiele decried. A collection of feminine care products by members of the Suffolk County Legislature proved successful, but also highlighted the impact the exclusion of these products from government assistance programs is having on women and girls. Peconic Estuary Program Funding Doubles in State Budget

On Thursday, April 8, New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., announced the state budget includes $450,000 for the Peconic Estuary Partnership. Last year, as in years prior, the Peconic Estuary Partnership (PEP) received $200,000 in funding through the state budget. This funding increase that more than doubles PEP’s previous allocation and will assist in essential environmental protection and programming, Mr. Thiele said in a press release.
