U.S. Coast Guard officers evacuated a 50-year-old man from a fishing boat near Montauk Point on Sunday afternoon due to a health emergency. He died later that evening. An Amagansett home caught fire on Saturday morning, and fire officials suspect it was sparked by lightning striking the roof of the house.Amagansett Fire Chief William Beckert said a 6:38 a.m. call reported smoke in the area of Cross Highway, prompting firefighters to investigate. Recreational Boat Catches Fire And Sinks Off Gardiners Island

A recreational boat caught fire and sank near Gardiners Island on Friday.According to Senior Chief Eric Best, officer in charge at the Coast Guard Montauk station, the incident took place sometime after 2 p.m. south of Gardiners Island and to the west of Cartwright Shoal.
