The Gift Of Reading

Forty-five years ago, Elizabeth Parker Anderson gave her house to the Town of East Hampton to be used as a library for the people of Springs. The town asked the Springs Historical Society to be responsible for the library. Books were donated, and people volunteered, and the library was born.

Forty-five years later, volunteers continue to work at the library to keep it open and up to date. The library buys new books regularly. People continue to donate books. Some of the donated books are put into circulation, some are added to the archives collection, and some are sold in our ongoing book sale.

The Springs Community Library is a nonprofit organization under the Springs Historical Society charter. Our funds are from membership dues and donations, and a few book sales.

Come in and visit our bright, cheery reading room. We have a collection of children’s books and young adult books, fiction and nonfiction, and mysteries. There is a selection of local authors and books of local interest, and a hanging display of archives.

Our volunteers are happy to be of assistance or just to visit with you. Volunteers are people who are gifts that keep on giving.

There is no better way to spend a cold winter day than to sit in your favorite chair with your favorite warm beverage and a good book to take the chill away. You can be transported to a faraway place or into a mystery or into local history. How about lifting up your child or grandchild to read them a story? Give them the gift of reading.

Are you wondering what to give that person on your list who has everything? How about a membership to the Springs Historical Society Library? Or you could make a donation in their name. We will be more than happy to acknowledge your gift. It would be a gift of knowledge, entertainment, romance or history, a gift that keeps on giving.

Annual membership dues are $25. At this time of year, we ask for your financial support to keep this precious gift of the Springs Library going. If you would like to volunteer and be a gift to the Historical Society Library, we would welcome you.

We are located in the heart of Springs, across from Ashawagh Hall, next to the Blacksmith Shop on Parsons Place. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 1860, East Hampton, NY 11937. Please make checks payable to the Springs Historical Society. Your donation would be a gift that keeps on giving to the community of Springs.
