Brooks Park with EHTPS Wednesday June 7 at 10 AM
. A walk-through art history: Brooks Park
Discover the genesis of the American art movement, Abstract Expressionism, at the home and studios of James Brooks and Charlotte Park, in the heart of Springs. After a short walk to the 11-acre property, we will see the structures emerge from the clearing. Untouched and dating back to the 1950’s and earlier, we will be transported back to a time when the New York School and the emergence of the Abstract Expressionist movement was in full gear. Join us for a presentation about the artists, the art, and the vision for the Brooks-Park Arts and Nature Center and then enjoy a walk around the property and surrounding trails. The historical importance of this site and the rich story it tells cannot be overstated. It is listed on the National Trust of Historic Places "11 Most Endangered Places" and the Preservation League of NYS "Seven to Save” sites. Meet at 10 AM on East Side Court off Neck Path, Springs. A collaborative event with the East Hampton Historical Society. FREE for EHTPS members, $12 fee for non-members.
