Cast a Mummy Hand (Tweens & Teens)

Description:

Turn your own hand into a life-like cast 'mummy' hand using fun-filled plaster gauze!
Discover the art of George Segal who made amazing life-size sculptures of everyday people using this plaster casting technique.
Joyce Raimondo shares this project from her pop art activity book, Make It Pop!

QUOGUE LIBRARY WILL DISPENSE SUPPLIES.

Things to note:
The project is messy - cover the table.
You might want to wear an old shirt or apron.
You will need a disposable cup filled with warm water.
You will need a pair of scissors to cut gauze into strips.
You will need petroleum jelly (such as Vaseline ) as a release to easily remove the cast from their hand.
Never adhere plaster to hand without petroleum jelly - it sticks to skin.
Have paper towels on hand for clean up.
Never pour plaster down the drain.
Keep the bag of plaster gauze air tight sealed or the plaster will be ruined.
Never put plaster on body without proper instruction and a release such as petroleum jelly - it will stick to skin.
Do not touch your cell phone or computer while working with plaster.
