Folkie Fest offers ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space and support live, local, singer/songwriters sharing their work.
We have moved to online concerts until restrictions are lifted. This event features local artists sharing their own original music and covering one or more from another local artist. Performing will be Rorie Kelly, Dawn Banks, Kristi Diaz and Joseph Perricone. James O’Malley has graciously agreed to be our virtual emcee.
Rorie Kelly makes ladybeast music. Her life’s mission is to create music that inspires others to love themselves fiercely and become their own heroes. Rorie’s empowerment anthem “If You Teach a Bird to Sing” led her to perform at the Obama White House and earned her a top 10 staff pick from WFUV’s John Platt. Her new album Shadow Work is set to be released in Spring 2021, and the singer promises the new album will be “big, dark, and 150% more witchy”.
Dawn Banks is a singer songwriter coming into her own voice. Her sweet, sexy, and soulful compositions accompanied by her sultry vocals and blues harp along with acoustic guitar take you along on her journey. She has a wide range of life experience to draw on and will draw you in.
Joseph Perricone is a songwriter, band leader, band member, and sometimes side man. The Other Shoe is a diverse band rooted in Americana, Soul, and Reggae. Their current release is "Love & All Things Painful"
Joseph has toured internationally and performed with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals, Phoebe Snow, and Curtis Mayfield, in addition to some OtHer great prominent and local musicians.
Kristi Diaz is a pop vocalist singing with acoustic duo Kristhen, since 1997 and has played Port Jefferson Harvest, Maritime & Music Festivals, many popular restaurant venues, North Fork wineries and has performed live in concert several times at BNL’s Berkner Auditorium. In 2016 Kristi started a musical project, The Karpenteers - A Tribute To The Carpenters (http://www.karpenteersny.com/) which has played over 100 live shows in the Suffolk/Nassau Library circuit, outdoor concerts and presently, continues with several Virtual Live and pre-recorded performances.
