Local Artists Share Songs that Touched Their Hearts
Folkie Fest presents an afternoon of heartfelt original music. Seasoned performers and emerging artists will provide something for everyone. Our lineup consists of Bryan Gallo, Nick Russell, Dawn Banks, Joseph Perricone and Mick Hargreaves. In order to protect those who may need it, we ask the audience to wear their masks while indoors.
Bryan Gallo is a Long Island based singer-songwriter inspired by late nights in bars, the backseats of cars, and the pressures and consequences of living life romantically. Intrigued by both the sounds of alternative country-rock and wistful pop music he embarked on a solo career and began to pen songs that would be deeply personal but still readily accessible. Steeped in reflective heartache, the lexicon of Gallo’s lyrics stands as a testament to his raw talent as a musician while weaving a flush and relatable narrative.
Nick Russell is a singer songwriter from Long Island, NY. Nick released his latest full-length album in January 2019, produced by Grammy award-winning guitarist Andy Falco of The Infamous Stringdusters. Talisman was well received by the Long Island community, and Nick looks forward to taking these songs on the road and sharing them with a broader audience.
10% of all proceeds from the album Talisman are donated to save the Great South Bay (savethegreatsouthbay.org)
Nick continues to write new songs collaborating with a host of local area and nationally respected musicians. His latest songs have been recorded and produced by acclaimed Grammy winning producer/engineer Ben Wisch.
Dawn is a singer songwriter coming into her own voice. Her sweet, sexy, and soulful compositions accompanied by her sultry vocals and blues harp along with acoustic guitar take you along on her journey. She has a wide range of life experience to draw on and will draw you in.
Joseph Perricone is a songwriter, band leader, band member, and sometimes side man. The Other Shoe is a diverse band rooted in Americana, Soul, and Reggae. Their current release is "Love & All Things Painful"
Joseph has toured internationally and performed with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals, Phoebe Snow, and Curtis Mayfield, in addition to some OtHer great prominent and local musicians.
Mick Hargreaves, singer-songwriter/performer, multi-Instrumentalist, recording studio operator will be joining us. "The songs of Mick Hargreaves can be easily pigeonholed as "Americana", but that would do a grave injustice to the breadth of styles his tunes encompass. Having fronted many different outfits over the years, Mick's songs manage to contain a little slice of each of the roads he's traveled. A little classic twang here, some Early 80's college rock flavor there, but always tied together with strong pop hooks and melodies." - Bryan Gallo
He's toured with various artists to just about every corner of the USA, and toured Germany/Austria once.
Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space and support live, local, singer/songwriters sharing their original work. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the community center, and a 50/50 raffle will be held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
