Forgotten Founders: Free and Enslaved People of Color in Long Island History

Description:

David Rattray and Donnamarie Barnes, co-directors of the Plain Sight Project, have worked tirelessly since 2017 to bring light to the history of slavery on Long Island. The Plain Sight project seeks to identify enslaved persons on the East End of Long Island from the 1600s to the mid-19th century and restore their stories to their essential place in American history. The presentation will focus on local East End research and local sites and stories of enslaved people in our community’s past.
