Hallockville Museum Farm at 6038 Sound Ave. in Riverhead is offering a series of workshops that will bring to life the historic practices of Long Island Farm Living. The first workshop, Sustainability, will be held on Saturday, April 2, and will teach participants about the “green” way of life on Long Island throughout the decades and how these self-sustaining ways are important in today’s world. The workshops are open to all individuals seeking a better understanding of local history and farm life, as well as to educators who may be eligible to earn either professional development hours or credits toward salary increments, depending upon their school district’s policies. Subsequent workshops will focus on Traditional Crafts (April 9), “The Immigrant Experience,” (April 30) and “Farm to Table,” (May 7). A fifth workshop on May 14 is designed to help educators develop lesson plans to bring the Hallockville Museum Farm experience into the classroom. The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.
