MM Fine Art is pleased to present IRINA ALIMANESTIANU: Strands, Threads, Metabolic Meditations, a solo exhibition of dynamic abstract paintings by the NY and LA based artist. The exhibition will be on view at MM Fine Art in Southampton, NY, August 1 – 16, 2020.
Recognized for her energetic and colorful large-scale works, Alimanestianu’s biomorphic forms examine the invisible relationships between objects and their environment. Rendering subtle associations through color and shape; connections are manifested through the language of abstraction. Alimanestianu joyfully experiments with the organic balance between chaos and harmony.
Born to Romanian parents who fled Soviet Communism Alimanestianu was raised in New York, Switzerland, and France. As a first generation American, the artist was instilled with a sense of collective world history and cultivated an interest in the shared human condition. Her explorations of societal structures are reflected in her earlier work yet remain impactful on her creative thinking.
Alimanestianu holds a BFA from New York University, an MBA from Columbia University, and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. She works between New York and Los Angeles. Her work was recently selected for the Parrish Art Museum’s triennial show “Artist Choose Artists, 2019” in Water Mill, NY. Her work has also been exhibited at the Hammer Museum of Art in Los Angeles as well as been curated in numerous gallery exhibitions in California and New York. Her writings on art and artists have appeared in Art Issues and other publications.
There will be a joint opening reception for both the Alimanestianu exhibition and the group show "Under the Influence" (on view in the adjoining MM exhibition space) on Saturday, August 1, 6 to 8 PM in the gallery's outdoor sculpture garden. A limited number of people will be allowed in the gallery at a time and masks will be required.
