LUNCHTIME TALK: Sabina Streeter & Giulia D'Agnolo Vallan Discuss Tarnished Angeles: Douglas Sirk's America

Description:

Join us at The Church for a Lunch Time Talk between artist Sabina Streeter and Sag Harbor Cinema’s Founding Artistic Director Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan as they discuss Streeter’s concurrent exhibition at the Cinema entitled Tarnished Angels: Douglas Sirk’s America, inspired by the work of Hollywood Director Douglas Sirk (1897-1987). On view at the Cinema through the end of April, Streeter’s display of works on paper and ephemera are in direct response to her own family’s relationship with Sirk, as well as his lasting relevance as a filmmaker. Sirk’s work, which was the subject of a retrospective at the Cinema in March, features protagonists in conflict with their environment and touches upon double standards of gender and issues of race and class. Streeter and D’Agnolo Vallan will discuss the genesis of the exhibition and explore their shared passion for Sirk’s films, which include Imitation of Life, Written on the Wind, All That Heaven Allows, There Is Always Tomorrow, and Tarnished Angels.
