SATURDAY, APRIL 22, 2023 - 10:00 AM - PAUMANOK PATH THRU NAPEAGUE PINES HIKE
Join us for what could be an eye-opening hike. What was until recently the beautiful Pitch Pine woods of Napeague is now being devastated by the Southern pine beetle. We will undoubtedly see large areas of felled pine trees. Still, this is nature. There will be some kind of succession; see the changes first hand. WE WILL CARPOOL. Meet 10:00 a.m. at the (only) bend on Napeague Meadow Road, near the LIPA substation, for a carpool back to the west end of the route. Distance: 4 miles; moderate pace; very flat. Bring snacks & liquids. Info only, call Rick Whalen: (631) 275-8539. Email: richardwhalen@optonline.net
