Nature Walk from SOFO to Poxabogue County Park with Dai Dayton: This free program is for adults, teens, and children ages 10 and older.
Walk Leader: Dai Dayton, President, Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt
Join Dai on this 2.5-mile winter nature walk as you go from the old field habitat of Vineyard field, behind SOFO, to Suffolk County’s Poxabogue Park, one of the first open space protection acquisitions in the Long Pond Greenbelt. The name Poxabogue is derived from the Native American paugasa-baug meaning “a pond that opens out or widens.” True to its name, the surface size of the pond changes when there are periods of heavy rainfall or drought. Poxabogue Pond is one of the 13 coastal plain ponds in the Long Pond Greenbelt. Enjoy grasslands, pond shore, and oak/hickory/pitch pine forest while you explore this remarkable landscape with Dai.
This is a free program.
