Parrish Art Museum | Jazz | Ekep Nkwelle Quartet

Description:

Summer Jazz on the Terrace returns this July through September 2024! In collaboration with Hamptons JazzFest, Jazz at Lincoln Center presents four thrilling concerts this summer at the Parrish’s expansive campus, bringing world-class jazz performances and artists to the East End. The concerts will be held on the Mildred C. Brinn Terrace and Event Lawn. Guests are strongly encouraged to bring outdoor chairs and blankets as no Museum seating is provided. Outdoor coolers and outside food are prohibited; food and beverages are available to purchase at the Parrish Café.

Join us Friday, August 16th for a performance by the Ekep Nkwelle Quartet. Vocalist Ekep Nkwelle, a 24-year-old Cameroonian-American jazz vocalist, entrances audiences with her strong lyrical presence and an uncanny connection to phrasing that’s at once grounded and ethereal. Nkwelle, Washington DC-born and New York-based, has trained at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Howard University, and The Juilliard School and worked alongside jazz masters such as Russell Malone, Cyrus Chestnut, and Peter Washington. She was also featured at Radio City Music Hall with renowned classical pianist Lang Lang in collaboration with Disney. She has performed at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and Newport and Montclair jazz festivals, but most notably, she was featured in 2022 on NPR’s Tiny Desk singing her arrangement of Geri Allen’s “Timeless Portraits and Dreams.” Nkwelle is one of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s rising stars, and with her artistry, she strives to display her passion for music worldwide.

Note: In the event of severely inclement weather, ticket holders will be notified as soon as possible. Please be advised that outside food is not permitted in the Museum or on the Terrace/Event Lawn; food, beverages, and cocktails are available for purchase in the Parrish Café.
