Deval Patrick will take to the Front Row for an engaging conversation on the state of democracy in the U.S. and the risks facing it.
Former two-term Governor of Massachusetts, business executive, investment entrepreneur and lawyer Deval Patrick is the first Black governor of Massachusetts (only the second in the country) and former Assistant Attorney General of the United States in charge of the Civil Rights Division (appointed by President Bill Clinton), Patrick rose from the South Side of Chicago to professional and political success. He brings a unique and broad perspective on politics, patriotism and democracy, observing that while he has “had a chance to live my American dream,” he sees “the path to that dream gradually closing off bit by bit” for other Americans. Now a professor and co-director of Harvard’s Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership.
