SATURDAY EVING CHURCH SERVICES
FOR THOSE PLAYING GOLF ON SUNDAY
Springs, New York — St. Peter’s Chapel, located at 465 Old Stone Highway in Springs, offers Saturday evening services at 5:30 PM, to worshipers who want to leave Sunday mornings free to play golf, go to the beach, or sail the waves. Services are often followed by pot-luck dinners, where members of the congregation put out their homecooked offerings.
St. Peter’s first service took place on June 6, 1881 for the funeral of Katie Miller, the daughter of Jonathan Miller, who had donated the land to the chapel. The construction was funded by the East Side Chapel Association. Two months later, on August 7th, the building was dedicated. Reverend Oscar Treder, the first Rector, renamed the chapel “Saint Peter’s” when he made it a mission chapel of Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church, located on James Lane in the village of East Hampton.
