This day-long celebration during World Oceans Week begins with the official inauguration of Shinnecock Bay as a Hope Spot by Mission Blue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Dr. Sylvia Earle. Other activities include trips aboard a research vessel to explore the bay, research highlights from the Stony Brook University Southampton marine laboratory, and an afternoon event with presentations by Dr. Sylvia Earle, members of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, The Explorers Club, Stony Brook University, and Schmidt Marine Technology Partners. The day will raise awareness of the Shinnecock Hope Spot, communicate the importance of marine science, technology, and conservation, and discuss the vision of what the Shinnecock Bay Hope Spot can achieve.
