he Bridgehampton Museum is pleased to welcome poets Megan and Scott Chaskey, who give a poetry reading, as part of our Distinguished Lecturer Series at the Museum Archive Building Thursday, July 14, at 6 pm.

The Chaskeys have given poetry readings internationally and locally for more than 30 years.

Megan Chaskey is a poet, educator, playwright, musician, Naam Yoga Therapies teacher, Harmonyum Healing practitioner, and holistic life coach. Her published books include Birdsong Under the Wisdom Tree, Collected Poems, A Book of Hours in the Life of a Poet (2015), Heartwood, with illustrations by her mother, local painter Connie Fox, and Voice with illustrations by her late stepfather, sculptor Bill King. Her poems have appeared in The Light of City and Sea, Sag Harbor Is, and Peace on Earth: A Book of Prayers from Around the World. Megan’s one-act play about the environmental writer Rachel Carson, The Power of Storm, was produced at Sylvester Manor on Shelter Island. Megan has taught writing, yoga, and gardening at local schools and art centers, including her signature Poetry Bookmaking Workshop series.

Scott Chaskey is a poet, farmer, and educator. For 30 years, he cultivated soil and community for the Peconic Land Trust at Quail Hill Farm in Amagansett, NY, one of the original CSA’s in the country. He is the past president of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York and was honored as Farmer of the Year in 2013. He has served as a founding Board member for the Center for Whole Communities in Vermont, Sylvester Manor Educational Farm, Shelter Island, NY, and for the Peter Matthiessen Center, Sagaponack, NY. Scott is the author of This Common Ground (Viking, 2005), Seedtime, On the History, Husbandry, Politics, and Promise of Seeds (Rodale, 2014), and Stars are Suns (poetry). He is currently working on, Soil and Spirit, which Milkweed Editions will publish in 2023.

The Distinguished Lecturer Series is a bimonthly series that will present informal talks with noted authors, historians, and poets and their work and process. Discussions will take place most alternating Thursdays beginning April 7, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.

A Q&A and refreshments will follow the 40-minute talk. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members.
