"The Center’s History Uncovered"
Speaker Mark Torres, Author of Local Island Migrant Camps: Dust for Blood
will be moderated by BHCCRC Board Member, Rev. Tisha Dixon Williams
The Center is proud to share our history and grateful to Mark Torres for his research for us. We have told the story for many years.
Born out of tragedy after a fire in a migrant camp killed two children of seasonal workers, The Center continues to serve our community’s children with educational and enrichment programs. For many working parents, The Center is a lifeline. Their children flourish in our many programs and play safely on the farm and fields donated to create The Center in the 1950s.
With our new building transforming The Center, we wanted to know the names of the two children who died in the October 22nd,1950 fire that inspired the community to come together and create a safe place on the Turnpike for children.
We now now those names and so much more.
Come and learn.
