The second annual “Harvest: Wine Auction and Celebration of Long Island’s East End” kicks off with a number of wine salons on Saturdays at 2 p.m., starting September 3 and continuing through September 17. The hour-long wine salon programs will offer behind-the-scenes looks at viticulture and vinification on Long Island. A few titles include: “Pen and Palate: Wine and Food Writers from Long Island;” “Does the Glass Make a Difference? The Riedel Challenge;” “A Truly Blind Tasting;” and “From Sea to Shore: Pairing Shellfish and Wine.”
A handful of “10-Mile Dinners” will be held on Friday, September 16, starting at sunset, at a number of local homes.
These intimate dinners, for 10 to 12 diners each, will offer a locally sourced meal, hosted by a top East End winemaker and regional chef, at private homes in the Hamptons, on the North Fork and Shelter Island.
A sampling includes: A dinner prepared by Larry Kolar of Solé East at the home of Robert Entenmann hosted by Martha Clara Vineyards; and a dinner prepared by Lia Fallon of Amarelle at the home of Tim O’Brien in Shinnecock hosted by Clovis Point.
On Saturday, September 17, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a “Fall for Long Island Festival Tasting” at Ludlow Farm in Bridgehampton. During the event, up to 30 local wineries will offer barrel samples of their not-yet-released wines from the 2010 vintage.
The Festival Tasting will also feature the flavors of the region’s farms, fishermen, cheesemakers and other food artisans in dishes made and served by top local chefs. Tickets are $125 each for this event.
The “Harvest Moon Gala and Live Auction of Long Island Wine” will follow from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $275, and include the festival tasting.
