The Southampton Publick House will be releasing very limited amounts of special brews, including the microbrewery’s Russian Imperial Stout, at a gathering at the Bowden Square establishment on Saturday, January 30, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Other special brews available for purchase at the party include the Trappist IPA, Berliner Weisse, Double Ice Bock and Cuvee des Fleurs.
Along with Publick House “year-round beers,” the tap room will be pouring draft versions of two 750ml “new release” beers, the Russian Imperial Stout and Trappist IPA. The traditional weekend Brewmasters Brunch will be available and there will also be a special cask beer on the bar for the release party.
Brewmaster Phil Markowski will be on hand all day long, ready to sign copies of his book, “Farmhouse Ales,” which will also be available for purchase.
Only one small batch per year—500 bottles—is made of Southampton Russian Imperial Stout 2010 (750ml), which is 10.5 percent alcohol by volume. The Southampton Trappist IPA 2010 (750ml) is a highly hopped ale, 7.8 percent alcohol by volume, that gains its fruity character from a year-long refermentation by a special strain of brettanomyces yeast. Only 400 bottles are produced.
Southampton Double Ice Bock (7oz) was awarded the gold medal at the 2000 Great American Beer Festival. Double Ice Bock is 18 percent alcohol by volume, and only 75 bottles are produced.
Other offerings include Southampton Saison Deluxe 2010; Southampton Grand Cru ’09; Southampton Abbot ’08 (vintage); Southampton Imperial Porter ’08 (vintage); Southampton Cuvèe des Fleurs ’09; Southampton Triple 2009 and 2007 (vintage); and Southampton Biere de Garde ’07 (vintage).

The Westhampton Steak House in Westhampton Beach has lost its lease and is now closed, according to Mark Maningo, the owner of the Kellman Corporation, a promotions company that had arranged to produce Comedy Loft shows there about once a month.
Mr. Maningo booked a comedy show for February 6 at the restaurant, which is also the site of a nightclub, but is now looking for another venue, he wrote in an e-mail Monday.
The owners of the restaurant could not be reached for comment this week, and, so far, there has been no explanation of why the Westhampton Steak House, located on Mill Road, lost its lease. On Monday, a sign advertising its availability was posted on the property.
