The East Hampton Historical Society hosted its annual House & Garden Tour on November 29, offering a behind-the-scenes look at some of the finest examples of architecture on the East End.

The event kicked off the night before with a sold-out cocktail party at a private historic home located in the Devon Colony. Saturday’s tour featured five distinct homes across East Hampton, including a house on Cove Hollow Farm with gardens by Ed Hollander; a modern home on La Forest Lane designed by Bates Masi + Architects; a traditional shingle-style house on Lily Pond Lane; and a home nestled in the Northwest Woods on White Pine Road, one of the 10 houses on this street designed by the late modernist architect Alfred De Vido.

The final home on Dayton Lane was the oldest on the tour, built in 1780 near the end of the Revolutionary War. It was rumored to have been occupied by British officers during their occupation of Long Island. Today, the home features a 21st-century lifestyle with a sleek kitchen, large windows and whimsical local wallpaper. The centerpieces of the home are the original hand-hewn, double-sided, central brick fireplaces.
