The Madoo Conservancy, artist and writer Robert Dash’s public garden in Sagaponack, has received a $47,000 grant to support its new welcome center, greater accessibility and educational opportunities.
This is the first time that New York State’s Long Island Regional Development Council has awarded an Empire State Development grant to Madoo.
“The Board of the Madoo Conservancy and I are very pleased to be awarded this grant,” Executive Director Alejandro Saralegui said in a statement. “Increasing accessibility and creating new venues for learning about the environment are crucial to our goal of becoming a cultural hub for the area.”
Madoo celebrated its 25th anniversary as a public garden in 2019. The 2-acre garden, which Mr. Dash first established in 1967, is horticultural diverse and ever-changing, according to the conservancy.
