A South Australian native took a liking to the style of Hamptons houses. Since late last August, she has been creating content for her YouTube channel, Hampton Your House.
Belle Emery, her husband Joel, and three children live in a rural coastal area of South Australia, not too far from Adelaide, the capital of South Australia
Hampton Your House has been largely inspired by looks that Emery likes that have a Hamptons style to them with a do it yourself (DIY) version of that look. She describes the Hamptons style as encompassing light, bright and airy spaces, with wooden floorboards and furniture, and natural fibers.
“I started some DIY projects to transform our house into a Hamptons haven, and I thought other people might be interested in this, too, why not share the journey,” Ms. Emery said. “So, it really began out of the decision to share projects that I was already planning and working on, and [it] grew from there.”
She has been able to get ideas for new content from her 542 subscribers through questions. Ms. Emery wants to make her channel as valuable, informative and well-rounded as possible, so she welcomes comments, she said.
“When ‘Hamptons style’ started gaining popularity in Australia, largely over the last decade, people were really drawn to it because it was a more sophisticated elegant coastal style with loads of history that worked really well with our indoor and outdoor lifestyle,” Ms. Emery said.
Hampton your House’s demographic is largely Australian, with growing numbers of viewers from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, Ms. Emery said. Much of her audience fits into the 25 to 35 age group, but some viewers are in the 40s to 60s age group.
She uses a Panasonic Lumix FZ100 to record her videos, she said.
Each video preparation and execution vary in length, some taking a week and others taking months to complete.
Ms. Emery has not been to the Hamptons before, however, she has been to New York, Boston and various other places in the United States. It’s been nine years since she first heard of the Hamptons.
She believes that her YouTube channel is a part-time profession, with the potential to become a full-time profession in the future.
Ms. Emery has a background as a jazz musician and a music teacher. She has tried to find creative ways to work at home, so she is able to be at home with her kids, and a project like Hampton Your House is one she finds stimulating and enjoyable.
Ms. Emery’s first video, How to Make Easy, Affordable DIY Hamptons Style Cushions, was inspired by her recollection of how similar Hamptons cushion covers are to blue and white dish towels.
“I was inspired to share my ideas with others on YouTube because I saw a niche in the market for achieving Hamptons style décor on a budget,” Ms. Emery said. “I love creating projects that inspire others to think outside the box and give their furniture a facelift rather than getting rid of it.”
