It may look as if the art has been hung out to dry, but in fact, it’s Guild Hall’s annual Clothesline Art Sale. This year, it happens, rain or shine, on Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. when work by nearly 400 artists will placed all over and around the museum, just ready and waiting to be purchased by you.

Since 1946, Guild Hall has hosted the annual art sale, a community event that showcases original works by East End artists. It attracts thousands of art lovers looking for the next de Kooning, Prince, or Sherman. Works range in price from $75 to $2,200 and who knows? One day your modest treasure may be worth a fortune.

Also at the art show will be Guild Hall’s second annual curated Makers Market with objects sold such as functional art, jewelry, handbags, fashion accessories, furniture, and hand knits. Artists wares will be on display in the Cheryl and Michael Minikes Garden for the duration of the Clothesline Art Sale.

Admission to the art show and market is free, though donations at the door are welcome, and all sales are split 50/50 between the artists and Guild Hall.

But if you want a sneak peek at the art and an early shot at buying it, be sure to check out the Clothesline Art Sale Preview Cocktail Party at Guild Hall on Friday, July 26. From 5 to 7 p.m., meet and mingle with fellow art enthusiasts while enjoying wine and light fare. Tickets are $100 ($75 for Guild Hall members). Get yours at guildhall.org or by calling 631-324-0806. Guild Hall is at 158 Main Street, East Hampton.
