Barry Alex Riddick, known to family and friends as “Bruisa,” died on December 3, 2018, at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. He was 56.

Born November 19, 1962, in Southampton to the late Matthew Riddick and Ethel Banks Riddick, he attended the Southampton Public Schools. After high school, he joined his father’s business working as a dock and bulkheader for Jackson Marina, Joe Core and Monar Landing, a vocation he enjoyed until his untimely death. The love that he and his father shared for the water and bulkheading brought them closer as father and son.

Mr. Riddick appeared to be a tough guy, but survivors said he was gentle as a lamb and would do anything for anyone. He had a great sense of humor and loved to have a great time with friends and family. As a child, he was known to play pranks on his siblings, always chasing his sisters around with insects and rodents. He also enjoyed throwing stones at his big brother while working with their father. He loved doing auto body work for anyone who was in need.

In 1991, he married Annette Walker and they had a son, Jamari S. Riddick. In 2017 he and Shana Pippen had a daughter, Lillyana D. Riddick.

Predeceased by his father, Matthew Riddick, Mr. Riddick is survived by his mother, Ethel Riddick of Southampton; brother Vincent Riddick (Ursula) of North Carolina; three sisters, Alfreda and Gilda Riddick of Southampton, and Keisha Riddick (William Mosley) of North Carolina; his son, Jamari S. Riddick of Newark; a daughter, Lillyana D. Riddick of Riverhead; three nieces, Shavonne Pritchard of Southampton, Synade and Sasia Mosley of North Carolina; two nephews, Sedrick Mosley and Vincent Riddick Jr. of North Carolina; two great-nephews, Jeremih Lewis and Isaiah Joyner; his ex-wife, Annette Walker; friend Shana Pippen; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A funeral was held at the First Baptist Church of Southampton. Arrangements were under the direction of Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
